Frequently Asked Questions
- Does it work with scanned PDFs?
- Scanned image-only PDFs require OCR and are not supported yet. The PDF must contain selectable text.
- Will complex tables look exactly the same?
- Simple tables convert well, but merged cells and complex visual layouts may need adjustment in Excel.
- Is the output really an Excel .xls file?
- It's saved with an .xls extension but is internally an XML-based spreadsheet file (SpreadsheetML) — Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice Calc all open it without any issue.
- How does it decide where one column ends and the next begins?
- It measures the horizontal gap between pieces of text on the page — a gap wider than roughly 2.5 characters is treated as a column break, so tables with tight or uneven spacing may not split exactly as expected.
- Can I convert just one page instead of the whole PDF?
- No, every page is converted automatically and placed on its own worksheet named "Page 1", "Page 2" and so on — there's no option to select a page range.
