Frequently Asked Questions
- What is EXIF data and why is it risky?
- EXIF is hidden data embedded in a photo file, often including the GPS location it was taken at, the device model, and the date. Photos shared on social media can unknowingly expose this.
- Can the cleaning be undone?
- Your original file stays untouched on your device after downloading the cleaned copy; you can always go back to the original.
- Does this remove all metadata, or just the GPS location?
- All of it — the tool re-encodes the photo from scratch instead of deleting tags one by one, so camera make/model, software, timestamps and GPS coordinates are all dropped together.
- Is my photo uploaded anywhere while it's being cleaned?
- No, both the scan and the re-encoding happen in your browser tab; the file is never sent to a server.
- Which file types can I clean?
- JPEG and PNG are supported; PNG files are re-encoded losslessly and JPEG files at 95% quality, so there's no visible drop in image quality.
