About Us
Filenary is a free web tool that performs file conversions entirely inside your browser. You can convert between image, PDF, audio, video and document formats.
Unlike many online converters, we never upload your files to a server. All processing happens with JavaScript on your device, so your files never reach a third party.
Our goal is to offer a fast, secure and free conversion experience.
How it works
Every tool on this site runs on a WebAssembly engine inside your browser tab: images are processed by the Canvas API and the browser's own encoders, videos by ffmpeg.wasm (compiled from FFmpeg), documents by pdf-lib, and AI tools like the background remover and text recognition run on-device ONNX models. No file ever leaves your device — there is no upload step because there is no server endpoint to receive it.
Because the work happens locally, speed depends on your own hardware rather than a queue on someone else's machine, large files are never refused (a 10 GB video is limited only by your device memory), and most tools keep working offline after the first page load.
The engines behind the tools are open source. We cannot read, store or forward file contents because they never reach us — and our analytics counts page views only: never file names, sizes or contents.
