Frequently Asked Questions
- Does this remove the metadata too?
- No, this tool only displays it. Use the Photo Metadata Cleaner tool to remove it.
- Why does it only work with JPEG?
- EXIF metadata is a JPEG/TIFF standard; PNG and WEBP files don't carry EXIF data in the same way.
- What fields does the viewer actually show?
- It reads camera make and model, the software tag, the capture date/time, and GPS coordinates if present — it doesn't parse camera settings like ISO, aperture or shutter speed.
- Is my photo uploaded anywhere to read its metadata?
- No, the EXIF data is parsed directly in your browser from the first part of the file; the photo itself is never sent to a server.
- The GPS coordinates are shown as numbers — how do I know where that actually is?
- The tool converts the embedded degrees/minutes/seconds values into a decimal latitude/longitude pair, which you can paste into any map service to see the exact location.
