What is it?
HEIC is Apple's default photo format on iPhone (since iOS 11), offering better compression than JPG at similar quality.
How do I open it?
Opens natively on Apple devices in the Photos app; on Windows and many Android devices you may need the HEIF extension or to convert it to JPG.
Is it safe?
Yes, it's just an image container and can't run code.
Can I delete it?
Safe to delete once backed up or converted — many non-Apple apps still can't read HEIC directly.
