.BIN File
What is it?
BIN is a generic extension for binary data. Depending on context it can be a disc image (paired with a .cue file), a firmware update file, a raw data dump, or part of an installer.
How do I open it?
There's no single default app — what works depends on the actual content: disc-image tools like PowerISO or 7-Zip for CD/DVD images, or the specific software or device the file was made for otherwise.
Is it safe?
A .bin file itself is just data and can't run on its own, but firmware or installer .bin files should only come from the manufacturer or software vendor you trust — flashing an untrusted firmware .bin can also damage a device.
Can I delete it?
Safe to delete disc images or downloads you no longer need; don't delete a .bin file that's part of an installer or update process you haven't finished running.
