What is it?
DOC is the older, pre-2007 Microsoft Word format, mostly replaced by DOCX but still common in older files.
How do I open it?
Opens in Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice Writer, which all still support the legacy format.
Is it safe?
Same caution as DOCX applies: legacy DOC files are a known vector for macro-based malware, so only trust files from known senders.
Can I delete it?
Safe to delete once no longer needed — consider converting to DOCX or PDF for long-term storage.
